Types of Carpet Fiber

There are a few different carpets fibers, including wool, nylon, polyester, and olefin:

Wool is sturdy, eco-friendly, and durable, but can become faded by the sun over time and isn’t appropriate for moist areas.

Nylon is renowned for its strength and soil-resistance. It won’t easily fade in sunlight, but may be subject to static build-up in low humidity.

Polyester is economical, soft, and resistant to most stains, however oil-based stains should be treated immediately.

Olefin boasts excellent mildew-resistance and is resistant to abrasions and foot traffic. However, prolonged sunlight exposure may cause some olefins to fade over time.

Types of Carpet

The most popular carpet types are level loop, patterned, textured, and frieze:

Level loop carpet has a dense, low profile, which makes it great for heavily-trafficked areas.
